Up Mushroom vandalism at Big Basin

Specimens of these mushrooms were picked by mushroom harvesters some time early on Saturday November 8, 2008.

Both of the two specimens of Lions Mane were taken. The larger specimen was spectacular, eliciting "oohs" and "awws" from our hiking group on the previous Thursday. They were there on Friday when the photographer returned to photograph them. On Saturday both were gone.

"Only" one of the Oyster Mushrooms were taken. These are more common. I guess the picker left some for the other pickers.

This is vandalism, depriving others of seeing these amazing and beautiful specimens of the natural world.

01 - Hericium erinaceus - Lions mane
02 - Pleurotos ostreatus - Oyster mushroom
